April 18, 2023 -- The Mansion at Rosemont recently hosted the Matsiko World Orphan Choir for a memorable and heartwarming performance as part of their U.S. tour. The mission of Matsiko World Orphan Choir is to use the unifying power of music to uplift every child, bring joy to all who listen, and to inspire generosity that provides a complete education for vulnerable children.
The children in the choir are from Liberia, West Africa, and are either orphaned or “at risk” and are in the United States for one year. The choir has performed in retirement homes, cultural events, festivals and churches across the United States, and has also performed in the White House under three different administrations.
Brenda Torres-Wells, director of hospitality, arranged for the choir to perform at the community. “The children’s performance was absolutely amazing! Their genuine humbleness was felt by both residents and team members, who are still talking about their heartfelt touching experience. This sparked interest from the residents for more opportunities to serve the needy.”
Karen D’Orsogna, director of sales, said “To witness the joy on our residents’ faces as they connected with these special children on a random Friday afternoon in April reminded me of how fortunate we are to have these opportunities available as part of daily life at The Mansion at Rosemont. “
Residents generously donated to the choir through their sale of CD’s, tee shirts and crafts from the children’s countries. All funds raised help the choir children when they return to their home countries and also fund the cost of the tour. Without this program and the generosity of the donors, many of the children would be unable to attend school when they return home. The choir’s goal is to break the cycle of poverty through education.
