Area Residents Enjoy Visiting Rosewood for Kern County's Senior Games

Rosewood hosted the 10th annual Kern County Senior Games. Classic cars, therapy dogs, marching bands, and a royal parade filled our community grounds as over 400 seasoned citizens participated in various activities. Contestants were put to the test with rock climbing, a one-mile walk, Wii bowling, horseshoes and so much more.

The games are an extension and a celebration of the widely-held belief that regular physical exercise is a crucial part of maintaining good health as we age. "So there's a little bit of friendly competition for the team awards and a little inter-organizational bragging rights associated with this," said Travis Staples, executive director at Rosewood.

Medals were handed out for the top three contestants in each event, but the people who put on the senior games will tell you, there's no losers in this crowd. Thank you to those who participated and to our 250 volunteers that helped to make this a day to remember. Proceeds from the tenth annual senior games will benefit the Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County and the Bakersfield Police Department's Christmas for seniors program.
