Gael
Music and Friendship Are Good for the Soul
When Gael decided to play the cello at 10 years old, her father told her, “You can’t play that type of instrument at parties; you might want to choose something else.”
Well, to her father’s delight, Gael proved him wrong. Gael studied under world-renowned cello teachers Orlando Cole and Janos Starker and made her life’s work as a professional musician. She has performed at many parties, including wedding ceremonies, receptions and other types of events with various string quartets, ensembles and other musical groups, such as Events Beyond Expectations, throughout her career. And now, new to her repertoire, Gael plays cello once a month for residents and guests of Spring Mill Pointe.
“Everyone at Spring Mill Pointe has been so receptive to my music that I even rehearse weekly with my string quartet in The Glen, an activity room steps away from my apartment,” Gael says.
She jokes that they should name their group "The Glen Quartet."
“Music is good for the soul, and I am glad I can share my music with others.”
When Gael isn’t performing, she works as a home health care provider for older adults in the Philadelphia area.
“I love giving back and helping others, especially seniors who need assistance preparing meals, cleaning their homes or just have someone to talk to. It really breaks up their day, and I enjoy it.”
Close to home, Gael enjoys spending quiet time in her apartment with her beautiful cat, Midgie, and socializing with new friends she has met at Spring Mill Pointe. Gael was ready to move to a place where she felt comfortable and didn’t have all the responsibility of maintaining a large home and yard.
“My days are very busy, so it was time to make the move to a place where there was less responsibility. It’s comforting to know that if I need anything or anyone, I just have to walk outside my front door. That is priceless to me.”

Sandy
Camaraderie, Conversation and Classic Cars
Sandy is a driving force.
When you meet Sandy, one of Spring Mill Pointe’s resident ambassadors, he will welcome you with a warm smile and is quick to invite a new friend to share a meal and good conversation with him.
“Spending time with a resident ambassador is a great way to really embrace and learn the community when you first move in,” Sandy says.
Once you meet Sandy, you will surely come to appreciate his lifelong passion for classic cars. A car enthusiast since he was a young child, Sandy grew up working on cars personally and professionally. He spent a good deal of time competing in drag races, embracing this form of motor racing that originated at local Pennsylvania racetracks. While he loves all types of cars, his real pride is being the owner of a ’32 Ford and a ’57 Chevy. He also passed along his enthusiasm for cars to his son, who was a sprint car driver.
“I love visiting my daughter, who lives in nearby King of Prussia, but the added bonus is, when I do, it’s an opportunity to see my cars, which are stored at her home. I have owned them for 60-plus years, and they give me great joy.”
One way Sandy loves getting to know people is by walking and talking.
“I started a walking club to encourage other residents to walk with me. The wooded campus is so tranquil. I also encourage team members, like our terrific sales director, to join us on daily walks. I believe everyone needs a break in their day!”
Walking isn’t Sandy’s only form of fitness; he also participates in weekly tai chi and “Sit to be Fit” classes and has recently learned a new card game called Kings Corner.
“It is so important to not only stay physically active but mentally active as well. It’s nice to know I live in a community that encourages residents to get involved. I am proud to be one of the Spring Mill Pointe ambassadors. If I can be encouraging to just one person, that is rewarding for me.”
