Royal Oaks Bobcat Fire Update

September 8, 2020

Royal Oaks residents and families,

Our teams are closely monitoring the Bobcat wildfire, which is currently located near the Cogswell Dam and has burned more than 4,700 acres. The health and safety of our residents and team members is our top priority and we are communicating with local first responders and authorities regarding the latest progress as they continue to fight this wildfire in the Angeles National Forest.

As of 4pm on 9.8.2020, our community is not under evacuation orders and the local fire marshal has informed us that an evacuation of our community is highly unlikely but our teams are finalizing evacuation contingency plans in case they are needed. We have adequate transportation in place, with more vehicles standing by, and we are currently working with nearby senior communities, nursing homes and hospitals to identify evacuation locations. Our goal is to find locations nearby that can accommodate as many residents as possible together instead of dispersing smaller number of residents to different locations. We will continue to update residents, families and team members via email and phone as we learn more information today and going forward into this week. Please know that our teams are following precautions to protect against the spread of COVID-19 during this time.

At this time, we ask that any residents who wish to leave the community to stay with friends and families please check in with our teams to inform them where you will be going. This will help us keep track of resident locations in case we have to evacuate. We also ask that family members who plan on picking up residents please alert our teams as well.

Finally, we will have a Director on “Fire Watch” again tonight, serving as Manager on Duty. They will monitor the situation, manage communications to residents and families, coordinate with any local emergency agencies as needed, and keep the Front Desk informed so they can answer any questions you have. If needed, the Manager on Duty will call in other Directors and on-call Team Members. Jill Crowell, Director of Resident Services will be here until 10:30pm followed by Sev Tienda, Director of Wellness, who will be here throughout the night.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Front Desk or me directly. We will also be sharing updates on our website at www.humangood.org/royal-oaks.

Sincerely,

Andrew Smith
