June 23, 2023 -- On June 15, White Sands residents came together to host a summer day camp for grandchildren of residents and children of team members. Nicole Scribner, home health and fitness supervisor, coordinated the event for children ages 6-11 with the help of White Sands residents.

The children began the day creating paintings with shapes, then moved onto painting seagull pins. The kids create gift bags to deliver to our Health Center residents, followed by a lunch of pizzas and sundaes with Chef Adan and Pasta Chef Sonia. Lunch was followed by a scavenger hunt and a trip to the beach to build sandcastles. The children finished their fun-filled day by going to the Health Center to deliver the gift bags they made to residents. The day was a great success, and plans are currently underway for a three-day camp in July.

“I came up with this idea from watching residents put on art classes and not many would attend”, said Nicole Scribner. “I asked a resident one day how fun it would be to have kids here to teach and he thought it would be such a great idea. Word got around pretty quickly and so many residents asked how they could contribute as well. After our first camp, I had quite a few residents reach out to me to see when I would hold the next one and if we can do it for more than just one day. The kids absolutely had a blast and asked when they could come back again.”
