The spirit of giving back

December 17, 2020

Happy holidays to all! Team members and residents across HumanGood jumped into the holiday spirit by spreading cheer to children in need and to the local surrounding areas. Below is a highlight of the good cheer shared.

 Las Ventanas

Las Ventanas held a food drive to benefit the Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada in November. The objective was to provide donations from Las Ventanas residents to support food handed out to those in need for Thanksgiving. Catholic Charities provided a large bin to collect non-perishable food, and monetary donations were accepted in a sealed box at the Concierge desk. We’re grateful to our residents for their willingness to contribute to the needs of the community during these difficult pandemic times.

Redwood Terrace

Redwood Terrace supported the 10th annual Festival of Trees event on November 21 which benefits the Foundation for Senior Wellbeing. This year’s event was a live virtual event which raised more than $20,000 for the Foundation. The community also sponsored Northern Lights, which benefits the California Center for the Arts in Escondido, and provides arts education to local schools.

Rydal Park

Rydal Park hosted a toy drive with local officials on December 13. The community was encouraged to donate gift cards, new unwrapped toys, children’s’ winter coats and other new winter wear. For everyone’s safety, people were encouraged to drive up to the front entrance to unload their donations.

Rydal Park also hosted a successful turkey donation event with local officials on November 22.  Over $2,000 in gift cards and $500 in turkeys and nonperishables were received, which were distributed to families in the Abington Township community.

Rydal Waters

For this holiday season, Rydal Waters will be supporting the ‘virtual toy-for-tots’ program where residents can support this charity right from their home. The virtual program minimizes the risk of entering a store by allowing residents to ‘drop your selected toy’ into the toy-for-tot box and purchase online.

Terraces at Los Altos

Very few of us have been immune to the challenges of this year, but for many individuals and families, the pandemic has exacerbated already difficult circumstances. That’s why this holiday season, residents and team members at The Terraces at Los Altos (TLA) are supporting neighbors in need with a Giving Tree.

For the first two weeks in December, a tree on display in the community’s lobby will have approximately 50 gift hangers. Residents and team members can select a hanger and either purchase a specific gift or provide a gift card. The hangers will support individuals and families the Salvation Army serves throughout the year.

Terraces of Los Gatos

Residents at The Terraces of Los Gatos will receive some early holiday cheer from students at two Los Gatos schools.

In dozens of handmade cards, students from Louise Van Meter Elementary School and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception will write messages of encouragement and share artwork that will be delivered to the community the week of Dec. 14. We are grateful for their support!

Terraces at San Joaquin Gardens

The Terraces at San Joaquin Gardens is making a great effort to preserve holiday traditions amid the pandemic. Not only will residents safely come together to wrap presents for the less fortunate, but they will also perform in their annual variety show. It’s all part of the community’s commitment to spread holiday cheer during trying times.

Residents recently made monetary contributions so The Terraces could purchase a variety of items to donate, from snacks to clothing accessories. On Dec. 21, the community will host a socially distanced “Boxing Party” where residents will gift wrap the procured items. On Dec. 22, the presents will be delivered to 140 residents at L.C. Hotchkiss Terrace and Rose View Terrace, nearby HumanGood affordable housing retirement communities.
