Mural unveiling at Ann Thomas Presbyterian Apartments

July 2, 2025 – This week, Ann Thomas Presbyterian Apartments in Philadelphia, PA celebrated the completion of a new mural, celebrating the strength and unity of the community and our residents.

This mural is the result of a collaboration between Mural Arts Philadelphia and Philadelphia Corporation for Aging and generous funding provided by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency through their Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement initiative (PHARE).Untitled design (44)-2

Artist Kelley Prevard designed the mural, Threads of Joy: Celebrating the Golden Years, to feature seniors engaged in various activities, including dancing, gardening, communing, and laughing. Mural Arts Philadelphia and Artist Kelley Prevard worked with the residents at Ann Thomas through community-based events. An art club was created for residents to help paint the mural and to participate in other artmaking activities.

Long term supporters of Southwest Philadelphia and mural arts program, Philadelphia Council President, Kenyatta Johnson, and Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, the Honorable Joanna McClinton were in attendance for the unveiling and celebration.

"This mural isn’t just something beautiful to look at—it’s a reflection of the people who live here,” said Cassandra Marin, administrator at Ann Thomas Presbyterian Apartments. “Our residents helped bring it to life, and now it lives on our building as a reminder of their joy, their strength, and everything they still have to offer. It means so much to all of us."
