Ethiopian Village wins Community Impact Award

November 15, 2023—HumanGood’s newest affordable housing community in Seattle, Ethiopian Village, has won the National Association for Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP) 2023 Judges’ Community Impact Award. According to NAIOP’s award website, the award recognizes a project that made a significant impact on the community in which it is located or in which they have worked. Judges evaluated the significance of the short-term and projected long-term impacts on the surrounding community’s jobs, social benefits, and environmental and physical amenities.

In partnership with community co-owner Ethiopian Community in Seattle (ECS) and with help from Beacon Development Group’s development and construction management, the project began in 2022 and opened its doors to residents the following year. It includes 89 affordable housing units for low-income seniors, an attached renovation of ECS’s community center and a coffee shop.

“Receiving the Community Impact Award from NAIOP Washington is a testament to the vision and inspiration behind Ethiopian Village,” said Brian Lloyd, Vice President of Beacon Development Group. “HumanGood is proud of this multi-faceted project and grateful for the opportunity to work in partnership with Ethiopian Community of Seattle on a project that will bring tremendous benefit to the neighborhood and to this community.”

Ethiopian Village was funded by the City of Seattle Office of Housing, the State of Washington Housing Trust Fund, Hudson Housing Capital, Umpqua Bank, the Washington State Housing Finance Commission, the CDFI Fund’s Capital Magnet Fund, the State of Washington Department of Commerce – Capital Facilities, the City of Seattle Equitable Development Initiative and a Capital Campaign generously funded by foundations and private donors.
