Social Accountability Committee Combats Homelessness

After completing the Masterpiece Living Lifestyle reviews last year, it was clear that many residents at Judson Park were longing for more spiritual and wholehearted growth. As many residents expressed, this stems from a desire to understand and serve unmet needs of others.

A couple of our resident took the lead on this outstanding request, and the Social Accountability Committee was formed.

Committee chair, Sally Dunn and her husband, Glenn Kirkwood both have a philanthropic heart. As leaders of the committee, the couple took the time to research where the residents collectively wished to focus their efforts. Upon learning about South King County community needs, the area of homelessness become the primary focus.

Residents paired up with Transform Burien, a local service organization combating homelessness through spiritual connections. Both groups joined forces and have taken the time to organize events with local churches, mobile medical and dental services, and other local professionals to provide those in the community with basic human necessities.

As our Social Accountability Committee is becoming more involved, they are currently reaching out to members of the community to help in a variety of ways. Last month, members collected men's jeans for donation. This month, they are gathering hooded sweatshirts. Here at Judson Park, we replaced some slightly worn blankets in our health center and donated 75 blankets to Transform Burien.

If you'd like to contribute to the cause, donations can be brought to the front desk at Judson Park!
