Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro recently awarded resident Virginia Eaton and her daughter, Joan Eaton, both the President’s Medal of Distinction—the college’s highest non-degree award.

The top honors were presented in separate ceremonies—the community hosted the award ceremony for Virginia while Joan received the award during the fifth annual State of the University breakfast. Castro praised the accomplishments of both mother and daughter. He described Virginia, a pediatrician for 50 years in Fresno, as an “inspiring trailblazer who leads an impressive and caring life.”
