Piedmont Gardens’ honeybee sanctuary, located on the rooftop of our skilled nursing center, was recently featured in the Journal on Active Aging.
The journal, published by International Council on Active Aging, highlighted the community’s search for ways to create a garden that was environmentally friendly but also a beautiful space for residents to enjoy. After months of planning, they hatched an unconventional idea that included fruit trees, vegetables, flowers and honey bees.
In October 2017, Piedmont Gardens received the ICAA Innovators Green Award following an annual competition that is open to organizations sharing ICAA’s goals of changing society’s perceptions of aging and improving the quality of life for older adults.
