Pat Guerrero, activities director and move-in coordinator, has taken a long lunch break from work to hand-deliver hard-boiled eggs and string cheese to the homeless in Mission Beach every Monday for the last seven years.

To the small community of homeless men and women at Mariners Point Park, Pat is known as the “egg and cheese lady.” Last year resident Lois Ream joined Pat for these weekly deliveries, which have become a mission of faith and of family for these two ladies.

For both Pat and Lois, they’ve encountered homelessness in their own families and believe that it only takes a small act of compassion to impact people’s lives.

“They feel for us what we feel for them,” Lois told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “When you look in their eyes, you’re telling them that they matter. It makes a world of difference.”

“You have to look at them and see them to let them know that you care,” said Pat. “They know our names and they respect us.”
