Update on Grand Lake Gardens

This is an update on the fire that broke out at Grand Lake Gardens on Friday, October 14. As previously reported, no residents were injured, but several people were initially taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. Thankfully, all have now been discharged from the hospital. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The building has not been reopened for occupancy, and suitable temporary housing accommodations have been identified for all residents. A group of residents are staying at Piedmont Gardens, our sister community in Oakland, and another group are staying at a local hotel with support from the Grand Lake Gardens team. The balance of our residents are staying with friends and family.

Our team is making good progress in securing apartments in local senior living communities (RCFEs), where residents’ longer-term needs can be met while we work to understand the extent of the damage to the building. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

We are incredibly grateful for the Grand Lake Gardens community, the wider HumanGood family, and the swift response from the Oakland fire department.
