Stars of Indie Film 'I’ll See You in My Dreams' Visit Royal Oaks

Community served as set for parts of the film.

While filming “I’ll See You in My Dreams”, actress and co-star Rhea Perlman says the thought about getting older crossed her mind several times. “It’s a frightening thing, but there was so much (positivity) coming out of the film; and watching [the residents of Royal Oaks], I felt like everybody was happy and thriving. It made me a little less afraid.”

Perlman, along with cast members Sam Elliott and June Squibb, opened up about their roles in the critically-acclaimed indie movie with Royal Oaks residents during a community visit on June 5, 2015. They also shared tidbits about their film and television careers at a Q&A session held in the community’s chapel.

Writer and director Brett Haley and producer Laura Smith also were on hand. Residents learned how they were able to bring to the screen a story about a widow in her 70s, played by actress Blythe Danner, searching for meaning in life after the death of her dog.

“Really, we couldn’t have made the film without the support of the community here,” said Haley. “I’m really honored to be a part of it and happy to be here again and share the movie with everybody.”

The movie was filmed on location at the Bradbury community a year ago, and many residents were cast as extras. Check out the Pasadena-Star News for more about the cast and crew’s visit to Royal Oaks.
