Resident Dennis Painter enjoys sweet success

Dennis Painter

Resident Dennis Painter started making kettle corn as a hobby more than two decades ago. In 1996 he turned that hobby into a profitable business, “Olde Tyme Kettle Korn.”

Although he sold his business to another family in 1996, Dennis is far from ‘retired.’ During the year, he spends every Wednesday at the Kaiser Permanente Fresno Farmers Market preparing bags of the sweet and salty treat with his grandson.

“If you sit around, you’re going to dwindle away,” Painter said in a recent interview with the Fresno Bee.

Discover below how Painter got into the kettle corn business and how he’s redefining what it means to retire.
