Plymouth Village received a silver award from the California Emergency Services Association for the community’s disaster preparedness program.
Launched in 2014, the program is aimed to equip our residents with the knowledge and skills to effectively respond to emergencies while waiting for help from emergency first responders.
More than 60 residents and all team members participate in the program, which includes emergency drills, practicing their responsibilities and other aspects of the community’s disaster plan. The overall plan focuses on three main components: communication, situation evaluation and assessment, as well as search and rescue.
Since the program began, many residents have acquired amateur radio licenses in case of communication failures. The community also periodically hosts Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training exercises, inviting emergency first responders and volunteers to share their expertise.
