Meet Jill Drexler

Written by HumanGood | Nov 07, 2019

At age 70, resident Jill Drexler says she has just begun her third act.

She’s the artistic director of the Scripps Ranch Theater (now in its 41st year); she teaches six cardio and two stretch classes a week at the Mission Valley YMCA; and she leads an artistic program at White Sand La Jolla known as the Readers’ Theatre.

In the Readers’ Theatre program, a group of residents come together every month to rehearse and then perform a play for about 70 of their fellow neighbors. Some of the scripts are even written by our residents; and they also take on classics like A.R. Gurney’s “Sylvia.”

Her experience and involvement in the Readers’ Theatre group, started about five years ago, has helped her to remain active. “Readers Theatre is different from a show (at Scripps Ranch),” Jill said in an interview with the La Jolla Light. “The blessing is you don’t have to learn your lines.”
