Since 2013, California College of the Arts in San Francisco students have taken on the challenge of depicting a lifetime of our resident’s moments in a single artistic creation.
As part of the Memory and Place program, residents are paired with the art students who gather as much information and stories over the source of seven two-hour sessions to create four original art pieces. That creative piece could range from a painting to even jewelry design. One year, a student created an entire Monopoly game based on the history and experiences of their partner.
“The program is quite successful and very beneficial to everyone,” says Liz Chamish, community services director. “Our residents are eager to share their stories and the program helps to expand the student’s world view on aging well.”
