Judson Park Resident Reads to Local Children

Written by HumanGood | Mar 31, 2017

When Nancy Breckenridge retired from Boeing, she was placed on a volunteer list —not knowing what they would ask her to do. They asked her to read to children at an elementary school five streets from her house.

With 20 years of experience in the Kent School District working with children ranging from kindergarten to third grade, Nancy is still eager to make reading a priority in children's lives. When she was in Kent School District, the nurse would come get her to sit with the kids on the cot and read with them. She could see the difference she made — those quiet times helped kids focus on being kids.

Even now, Nancy still loves the one-on-one focus that comes with reading to children. She is currently reading at Parkside Elementary to special needs children. She is so impressed with the Washington State school program, and loves the hugs she receives from the children – and of course, the kids love the special attention and treats she brings!

Nancy wishes everyone could spend time with these students. With a smile from ear-to-ear and an infectious personality, Nancy believes each moment spent with children is valuable. We are thankful for her volunteer services to the children in our community and we are very happy to have her here at Judson Park!
